In the mornings we sing hymns and songs of worship. There is at least one bible reading, a time of prayer and a message from the Bible. Before the children leave part way through for Sunday Club (School) there is also Family Focus suitable for all ages. The evening follows a similar pattern but without Family Focus or Sunday Club.
We love to sing hymns and songs, new and old, which reflect the whole range of Christian truth and experience. We rejoice in God because He is loving and merciful and we reverence Him because He is holy and exalted. Music is from our digital piano and is sometimes accompanied by other instruments like flute and guitar.
The words of songs and hymns and other service details are projected onto a screen above the pulpit, but there are song books available if these are preferred.
In general terms, the preaching and teaching of God's Word is expository, that is, the aim is to open up, explain and apply the Scriptures to the hearer, with God's enabling and help. Sermons are usually half an hour long.
On Sunday morning we have a creche facility for the very young and Sunday Club (School) (link) for school aged children.
After the morning service we don't rush off (unless it can't be helped!) but stay a little while to have some simple refreshments and chat. If there are any particular prayer needs we're very happy to pray in private with anyone who requests it.
Every first Sunday morning and every third Sunday evening of the month the Lord's Supper is observed at the end of the services. All who trust in Jesus alone for their salvation may take apart, but those who can't say that Jesus is their Lord are very welcome to be present and observe.
On the last Sunday of the month we have a 4pm service instead of 6pm. The preaching is usually more thematic, choosing a topic or a person to be focused on in the light of the scriptures. We then follow it with a full afternoon tea where we can sit and chat.
At the evening service on the first Sunday of the month, we join with St Mary's Summerstown and worship together. We spend 6 months of the year at each church, summer at St Mary's and winter at SMEC. Check our events calendar for the current location.
